GBREB Foundation Scholarship

The Greater Boston Real Estate Board Scholarship Fund was established in 2012 with the goal of helping economically disadvantaged young people attend and graduate from college by providing them with scholarship assistance and financial aid counseling.

Now in its tenth year, the GBREB Foundation has awarded over $2 million dollars in ‘last dollar’ scholarships that are granted for the purpose of filling the gap between students' financial aid and the costs of college beyond tuition – such as room and board, computers, books and supplies – to graduating seniors in the Greater Boston area. Scholarships of $1,000-$5,000 are awarded to students each spring based on financial need, academic achievement, leadership, extra-curricular involvement, written essays, and are guaranteed for two years. These scholarships can sometimes be the determining factor as to whether or not a low-income student will arrive on campus to attend college. To date, the GBREB Foundation Scholarship Event has awarded over 400 scholarships to deserving students. After a 2-year pause caused by the Pandemic, the Foundation is poised to resume helping the students of Greater Boston.

Along with the Scholarship Fund Event, the Foundation created the College to Career Initiative summer student internship program, which is designed to cultivate a more diverse generation of real estate professionals in Greater Boston. The paid, 6–8-week program connects economically disadvantaged but academically gifted students with firms involved in the various facets of the commercial real estate industry.

The Foundation is a charitable tax exempt 501 (c)(3) organization which raises funds through the philanthropic giving of its five member organizations, the Building Owners and Managers Association of Boston (BOMA), Commercial Brokers Association (CBA), Greater Boston Association of REALTORS® (GBAR), Real Estate Finance Association (REFA), and the Massachusetts Apartment Association (MAA).
