September is REALTOR® Safety Month! In this course, Dave Legaz, REALTOR®, retired NYPD Police Sergeant, 2021 NYSAR President and 2020 NAR REALTOR® Safety Advisory Committee Chairperson will explain how real estate professionals can reduce the risk of being targeted by predators. Dave will discuss various predatory behaviors, and steps agents can take to re-duce the likelihood of getting into an unsafe situation while on the job. Also, Kimberly Allard to offer her expertise on conducting open houses and safety plan development.

While focusing on finding the best real estate opportunities for your clients, you need to keep an eye on the risks of doing business. Real Estate Safety Matters: Safe Business = Smart Business, is a three-hour course brought to you by the National Association of REALTORS® and the REALTOR® Safety Program.

Learn how you can easily keep business risks low while increasing opportunities for growth by:

  • Following safety best practices when showing property, conducting an open house, working in the office, and driving alone or with clients or customers.
  • Learn how to quickly assess a potentially dangerous situation and take appropriate action.
  • Safeguard your own and your clients™ personal data, as well as practice prudent use of social media and mobile phone technology.
  • Encourage all agents and employees to follow safety best practices and company safety policies.

Instructors:

Dave Legaz  After a successful career as one of New York’s Finest, Dave re-tired as a Sergeant in 2002 after responding to the 9/11 World Trade Center tragedy and losing his partner. Dave combines his two decades of law enforcement experience and 25 years of real estate practice to teach real estate professionals internationally how to reduce their risk of  being targeted by a predator. In 2019, as a Graduate of the NAR Leadership Academy, Dave petitioned NAR’s Leadership Team to create a REALTOR® Safety Advisory Committee and was appointed its first Chairperson for 2020. He is also the Education Chairperson and a Board of Director with the Beverly Carter Foundation whose mission is dedicated to improving agent safety. Dave also co-authored an agent safety book named, “Safe Selling: A Practical Guide for Preventing Crime without Sacrificing the Sale.” He was the 2021 NYS Association of REALTORS® (NYSAR) President, the 2017 Long Island Board of REALTORS® President and their REALTOR® of the Year in 2014. Dave has been a NAR Director since 2013 and a NYSAR Director since 2012.

Kimberly Allard is the Broker/Owner of Century 21 Professionals in Braintree MA. in 2022, she currently served as the NAR New England Region Vice President, and as a Member of the  Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons. In 2017 she was the recipient of the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® (MAR) Real Estate Educator of the Year, and was inducted into the REALTOR (RPAC) Political Action Hall of Fame. In 2013, she was elected President of the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® (MAR) and since lends her time and talents to chair and serve on numerous NAR committees as well as serving on the National Association of REALTORS of Board of Directors since 2010. In 2010 she was selected as the MA REALTOR of the Year. Kimberly is approved to teach real estate continuing education in MA and holds a seat on the board of Real Estate Brokers and Salesperson for the Division of Professional Licensure for the State of MA. She is a certified RPR and ZipLogix trainer. Kimberly has used technology throughout her career to separate herself from the competition and to get noticed.
