Wentworth Inst of Technology: Building Automation Systems

The Building Automation Systems (BAS) certificate is designed for Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Boston members who have two – four years of professional experience in construction, facilities, or as an engineer, electrician or HVAC technician. In addition to the basic principles of facilities management, students will learn facilities project management and hands-on training in various Building Automation Systems, and demos on various control systems. This program is conveniently formatted for adult learners, with fast-paced seven week courses that allow you to quickly gain career-enhancing skills. 

Students may take all three courses for the certificate or just the new Understanding Building Automation Systems course for a greater understanding of this rapidly changing technology.

Available courses: 

TFMC 0250 Understanding Building Automation Systems (UBAS) Prepares students for the most significant changes in today’s management of the built environment and the demands of efficient energy use.  UBAS provides an opportunity to revolutionize the way organizations manage their facilities, not only for significant energy reduction but also for greater coordination and oversight of day to day operations.  This course will prepare you to more fully understand the potential and value of a well-designed and properly managed Energy Management System. 
Tuesdays, October 30 through December 11, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm, $750 

TFMC0210 Principles of Facilities Management: This course examines the scope of the Professional Facilities Manager's position within various practice situations. The FM's role in relation to an organization's strategic plan is also stressed. The basic IFMA, International Facilities Management Association, competencies will be reviewed and discussed.
Wednesdays, September 5 through October 17, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm, $750 

TFMC0240 Project Management: Study of the methods, concepts, and procedures of project management. Considers team development, accountability, sequencing of events, scheduling, coordination of consultants, budgeting, contract administration, purchasing, and estimating. Relocations and move management will also be reviewed. Will address IFMA project management competencies.
Wednesdays, October 31 through December 12, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm, $750 

Continuing Education Units/Credits:  Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive 6.3 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), not college credit. Courses are designed to be taken one at a time and in sequence.
