GBREB Testifies on Governor’s Tax Plan
Last Friday, March 8, GBREB CEO Greg Vasil, along with MAR CEO, Rob Authier, testified before the Massachusetts Legislature’s Joint Ways and Means Committee as part of a hearing that was the culmination of a series of budget sessions held recently regarding Gov. Patrick’s tax plan. In their joint appearance, GBREB and MAR officials voiced opposition to three specific tax provisions within the Governor’s budget that would eliminate the Lead Paint Tax Credit, Title V Tax Credit, and Capital Gains Exclusion on home sales. A repeal of these tax credits would have a devastating impact on the Massachusetts economy by hurting homeowners and the housing market.
“People aspire to home ownership,” Vasil told the committee. “Oftentimes people look at tax credits as something for the rich. In this case it is something for the every day people”.
Both GBREB and MAR urge legislators to reject HOUSE 1 – FY2014 Budget Recommendations Outside Section 7, subsections (D), (F), (Q), and (R) for the reasons outlined here.
