The Ethics Deadline has Come and Gone…Now What?
The December 31, 2012 deadline for all REALTORS® to complete the mandatory ethics training has passed, and there are still some members who have yet to fulfill this requirement! This means that those members have had their membership with GBAR, MAR, and NAR temporarily suspended through February 28, 2013, or until they complete the training.
This suspension prohibits the use of the REALTOR® term and logo in advertisements and on MLS, as well as the loss of access to GBREB’s e-Forms and other membership benefits available from the Greater Boston, Massachusetts and National Associations of REALTORS®. Suspended members are also subject to an association reinstatement fee.
If this requirement has not been met by March 1, an agent’s membership in the REALTOR® organization and Greater Boston Real Estate Board will be terminated. After that date, individuals interested in re-joining the association would need to reapply for membership, and would be subject to payment of an entrance fee and annual member dues (regardless if already paid for 2013). In addition, once an agent’s membership is terminated, the office principal or manager will be invoiced a non-member assessment fee of $471 for each agent who no longer holds active REALTOR® membership.
If you have yet to complete the training, please do so as soon as possible. You may do so by enrolling in the free online ethics course available 24/7 on NAR’s website http://www.realtor.org/code-of-ethics/training, or you may register for one of the four upcoming webinars to be presented by GBAR in the coming weeks.
