GBAR Directors Approve Budget, Elect 2013 Leadership
At its annual meeting on October 22, the GBAR Board of Directors approved the association’s budget for 2013 and elected new leadership for the coming year. The elected officers who will assume their roles on January 1, 2013 include: President Sue McDonough, of William Raveis Real Estate in Wellesley; President-elect Michael DiMella, of Charlesgate Realty Group in Boston; Vice President David McCarthy, of Keller Williams Realty Boston in Boston, and Treasurer Rob Harrington, of The Nexum Group in Framingham. In all, 17 members were elected to the 2013 GBAR Board of Directors , while eight members were elected to represent GBAR of the GBREB Board of Directors, and 26 were elected as state directors with the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS®. Meanwhile, current GBAR President William Dermody, of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Needham, and 2013 President McDonough won election to seats on the National Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors.
The $1.65 million budget was adopted without a dues increase, meaning local, state and national membership fees will remain stable at $506 for REALTORS® and $680 for Designated REALTORS® (DRs, aka broker-owners), and projects a 90 percent member retention rate. Among the programming highlights in 2013, the budget includes funding for creation of a new GBAR App for members and consumers to communicate with the association via their “smart” phones, a new public awareness ad campaign promoting the REALTOR® brand, and expansion of the association’s monthly housing reports to include multifamily housing data by community. GBAR also intends to present a one-day industry trade show, hold a spring sales rally featuring a nationally-recognized real estate trainer Bernice Ross, and host several “open house” days offering member benefits information sessions and tours of the GBAR/GBREB offices. In addition, the new year will include over 60 professional development courses and webinars, continuation of our regional member forum series known as Community Chats, and debut a new quarterly breakfast program series for DRs.
