REALTOR® Rally to Protect the American Dream Draws Thousands
On May 17th, over 13,000 REALTORS® gathered at the Washington Monument sporting blue REALTOR® t-shirts to show Congress that homeownership must remain at the top of their list of priorities. REALTORS® were in Washington D.C. for NAR’s Annual Mid-Year Meetings. Speeches were given by Sen. Johnny Isakson (R – Ga.), a third generation REALTOR®, NAR’s chief economist Laurence Yun, and House Minority Whip, Steny Hoyer (D – Md.). Roughly 30 GBAR members attended the rally to help represent Massachusetts. REALTOR® TV composed a video of the event, highlighting the positive attitudes and united front that REALTORS® presented. The rally focused on the economic benefits of homeownership, with experts estimating that more than $50,000 is pumped in to local economies with each home purchase. NAR’s 2012 President, Moe Veissi stated that “Homeownership is what this country has always been about – when you put people in homes, you strengthen America”.
