GBAR presented its annual member recognition awards earlier this week at a dinner held at the Dedham Country Club. Paul Yorkis, broker-owner of Patriot Real Estate in Medway, earned the association’s top award honor being named Greater Boston REALTOR® of the Year (ROTY). Also honored were D. Gary Rogers, broker-owner of RE/MAX on the Charles in Waltham, who was presented with the prestigious Andrew Hickey Distinguished Service Award, Joseph Schutt, an agent with Gibson Sotheby’s International Real Estate in Boston, who earned the REALTOR® Spirit Award, and Louise Olson, of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Cambridge who received the GBAR Good Neighbor Award. The GBAR Affiliate Member of the Year award went to Greg Giokas, a mortgage loan officer with MetLife Home Loans.
A ROTY nominee each of last three years, Yorkis is the 2011 chairman of the GBAR Professional Standards Committee and a mediation officer. He served as a GBAR Director from 2007-2010 and was a member of the Bylaws PAG in 2009-2010. A director for the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® (MAR) since 2009, he is chairman of the MAR Charitable Foundation, and a member of the state association’s Government Affairs Committee and Quality of Life PAG. A REALTOR® since 1995, he is an RPAC Sterling R major investor this year and has earned his CBR and LMC designations. Within the community, he is chairman of the Medway Rt. 109 Design Committee, a member of the Medway Economic Development Committee, and town representative to the Metropolitan Area Planning Council.
Rogers, who received the Hickey Distinguished Service Award, is a director for the Greater Boston Real Estate Board (GBREB), a member of the GBAR Grievance, Membership Benefits, and Professional Standards Committees, and also serves on the GBREB Government Affairs Committee. A director for the National Association of REALTORS®, he championed efforts to launch an online education center as a platform to earn CE credits while serving as president of MAR in 2009, and played an instrumental role in the creation of GBAR’s regional structure while an association director.
The REALTOR® Spirit Award was presented to Joe Schutt for his strong professional ethics, cooperative spirit and willingness to share business knowledge, industry experience and personal time to help others succeed in their career. A two-term chairman of the GBAR Technology Committee, Joe spearheaded the planning, promotion and presentation of this year’s REBarCamp in Boston, and has been a volunteer instructor for GBAR, educating members on the use of the association’s e-Forms platform by TrueForms™. Currently a director for the Massachusetts and National Associations of REALTORS®, Joe also is a member of the National Association of Gay and Lesbian RE Professionals, an affiliation which led to him playing a prominent role in efforts to add “Sexual Orientation” to the list of protected classes recognized in the REALTOR® Code of Ethics this past year.
Louise Olson, a REALTOR® since 1986, was named the association’s 2011 Good Neighbor Award Recipient for her long history of volunteerism with Our Place Daycare Center for Homeless Children in Cambridge.
Giokas, this year’s Affiliate Member of the Year, has served on the GBAR Business Development Committee since 2010 and has financially-supported numerous association programs.
