As a real estate professional, risky situations can present themselves frequently. From meeting new clients to showing empty homes, you must take responsibility for personal safety. The decisions you make and the way you react can help prevent you from becoming a target or victim while on the job. GBAR is hosting a REALTOR® Safety Day on September 25th with Boston Police Sgt. Gary Eblan, who will present a self-defense seminar. We urge you to attend this session, which also will include two CE hours of instruction on Conducting Open Houses & Developing a Safety Plan (RE36R05), to learn how to protect yourself from dangerous situations. Simple actions, such as having another person accompany you at open houses, creating "escape plans" if you must leave quickly, walking behind prospects and directing them where to go, are just a few of the strategies you can implement. There are many other important safety tips and resources available for you to learn from on the REALTOR® Safety Section on REALTOR.org and the REALTOR® Safety Page of marealtor.com. We take the safety of every member seriously and encourage you to take all necessary precautions to protect yourself in the field!
