Do you take the commuter rail to work? What about the bus? Live close enough to walk? However you get around, keep your eyes open for ads promoting the advantageous market conditions that GBAR has placed for its third advertising campaign. The ads, which target first-time homebuyers, fence sitters and sellers, can be found on the back of 150 MBTA buses traveling in the city and in 50 commuter rail stations.

And to persuade you to stop and take a look around, GBAR is holding a contest along with the ad campaign. For every picture you take of a GBAR ad (they must be in different locations) you’ll be entered to win a GPS Navigation unit. So the more pictures, the more times you’ll be entered to win!

Please e-mail or send all of your pictures (with the location and your contact information) to GBAR Communications Coordinator Christina Meehan at or GBREB, 11 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02108. The deadline to enter is November 1. You can find the ad locations at

On August 18, 2009 the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced updated fees that will be charged to entities accessing the National Do-Not-Call Registry beginning October 1, 2009. The annual fee adjustment, as required by to the Do-Not-Call Registry Fee Extension Act of 2007 (the Act) is tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all urban consumers published by the Department of Labor. The Act specifies that beginning after fiscal year 2009, the dollar amounts charged shall be increased by an amount equal to the amounts initially published in the Act, multiplied by the CPI for the 12-month period ending June 30th of each year. The CPI multiplier is 1.4 percent for fiscal year 2010 (from October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2010) and increases the fee for access to a single area code (access to the first five area codes remains free) for a full year to $55.00 (an increase of $1) and an increase in the maximum amount that can be charged to an entity to $15,058.00 (an increase of $208.00).

Higher priced homes in declining markets shouldn’t be subject to mandatory second appraisals, NAR President Charles McMillan says in a letter to FHA Commissioner David Stevens. A mortgagee letter (2008-09) released last year on April 1 requires a second appraisal for properties with an appraised value in excess of $417,000 and located in declining markets, among other criteria. The requirement imposes a burden on already hard-hit areas, McMillan says.

Members of the Greater Boston Association of REALTORS® are invited to participate in the City of Boston’s next Boston Home Center Housing Fair being held on Saturday September 26 from 11:00am - 4:00 pm at the Mildred Ave Community Center in Mattapan (5 Mildred Ave.).

This is a great opportunity for REALTORS® to speak with interested homebuyers about purchasing REO properties and as well as market REO listings or Boston listings you may have.

Interested homebuyers will be able to meet with REALTORS®, lenders and home buying counselors all in one location and get access to listings, information about specialty mortgage programs; and financial incentives and assistance programs available through the Boston Home Center.

If you are interested in participating, return the Registration form as soon as possible.  The form can be faxed to Christine McCrorey at (617) 635-0183 or emailed to
