BOMA Boston Benefit Check Presentation
Checks in hand and smiles on faces, the heads of four Boston-based charities walked away from the Boston Park Plaza Hotel on Monday, June 2nd, $20,000 richer.

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Boston, BOMA Boston, raised over $80,000 at its 19th Annual BOMA Benefit: The Roaring ‘20s, held March 1st at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.  The funds raised were doled out to four housing-related charities—Can Do, Friendship Home, The Somerville Homeless Coalition, The New England Center for Homeless Veterans—and an additional charity—the BOMA Boston Education Scholarship Fund.

Representatives from BOMA Boston were on hand at the Park Plaza, including President Rob Brierley of Brookfield Properties, BOMA Boston Executive Director Jeanne Wolf and Benefit Committee co-chairs Peter Seoane of Stuart Dean and Katy Gurkin of Jones Lang LaSalle.  Seoane and Gurkin awarded checks to a handful of grateful recipients, among them, Josephine McNeil, Can Do Executive Director. While accepting her check, McNeil revealed to the intimate audience that the $20,000 donation will go directly to the renovation of a single-family home.

Also in attendance were Larry FitzMaurice and Jim Kraus of The New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, whose mission is not only to provide homes to disadvantaged veterans, but also to help them overcome addiction, attain jobs and a greater level of independence.

The third recipient, Wilma Goodhue of Friendship Home, expressed her heartfelt thanks to BOMA and had earlier relayed to attendees the delight experienced by the Friendship Home friends, who personally attended the Benefit. Friendship Home’s mission is to provide quality respite care to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Representatives Mike Libby and Walker Martin from the Somerville Homeless Coalition humbly collected their check, which will help the group continue to provide permanent housing solutions and offer personal supportive services to vulnerable individuals and families in Somerville.
