The REALTOR® Community Observers (RCO) program is designed to engage members of the Greater Boston Association of REALTORS® (GBAR), a division of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board (GBREB) on the local level. Community observers will act as the association’s "eyes and ears" in their local community. RCO’s keep the GBREB Government Affairs Committee informed of "hot local issues". The observer’s role is to monitor issues and submit simple reports to association staff regarding proposed local ordinances, bylaws, and "home rule" legislation that meets the scope (i.e. eligibility criteria) set forth by the Greater Boston Real Estate Board. The role of REALTOR® Community Observer is an informative role only and not one of advocacy. The appropriate course of action will be determined by the GBREB Government Affairs Committee in consultation with GBREB staff which may include anything from no action, to submitting a letter or testimony at the local level.
